Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest cruise port operator, today brought together key industry stakeholders at Seatrade Cruise Global to present its newly signed concession for Acapulco Cruise Port, highlighting a strong and collaborative partnership with ASIPONA and a shared vision for the destination’s future.
The press conference, held at the GPH booth, featured Mehmet Kutman, Chairman & CEO of GPH; Mike Maura, GPH Regional Director Americas; and Admiral Raymundo Sánchez, Director General of ASIPONA. The session reflected a highly positive and forward-looking dialogue, underpinned by a clear alignment between all parties.
Following last week’s official announcement, it was confirmed that on April 9, 2026, GPH signed a 24-year concession agreement to operate and develop the cruise terminal across a 17,199 sqm area, marking GPH’s entry into Mexico and a significant step in its Americas expansion.
Speakers emphasized the strength of the collaboration between GPH, ASIPONA, cruise line partners and local stakeholders, with a shared commitment to enhancing infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and delivering a high-quality passenger experience.
Under the concession, GPH will implement phased investments to upgrade facilities, improve passenger flow and introduce new commercial and leisure offerings. These efforts will be supported by destination-driven initiatives and new shore-side experiences aimed at further elevating Acapulco’s positioning within Pacific and Mexican Riviera itineraries.
In parallel, ASIPONA is expected to deliver a new 350-meter berth, planned for completion in Q1 2027, enabling the port to accommodate larger, modern cruise vessels.
Together, these developments signal a coordinated and long-term approach to strengthening Acapulco’s role as a key cruise destination, supporting its re-positioning and sustainable growth within the regional cruise market.
